Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

This is looking great ,i think arran is right about the coat of arms though.Personally I don't see anything wrong with the generic type design for it ,Just the size really.Maybe shrink it down to half the size and it wouldn't dominate the chest plate quite so much.
All in all though the texturing is excellent so far. user added image

The crest was not something generic that I found. I actually have a long history with it. I ment to say this earlier but I was concentrating on some of the more difficult things. I did take it into advisement to make it smaller ( I do tend to go overboard on things like that) . I wonder if anyone would recognize it?

other than that, Ive been working on the specularity and reflection maps.

The cloth is really bugging me, I can't seem to get it right. :headbang: user added image

Looking good, I'd say go with the first bump, the idea of making it smaller might work. The second bump looks more like scratches, or 'thatched roof' if you get my meaning.

The first bump I couldn't scale down because it wasn't tileable (haven't quite figured out how to do that yet). But I did find a pic that is:attn: . So I think this is just about right.

Easiest way I've found is to offset (filter>other>offset) the image both verticaly and horizontaly a bit so that the boarders of the image will tile correctly. In most cases it involves a bit of adjustment to the picture to make it work, such as blur/smudge/clone tools, after using offset.

Breif example

I'm personally liking the blue one best.

Great job on the gold-plate-design on the armor! user added image

Thanks, I've impressed myself. Now I just need to work on my animating skills. I'm going to try and rig him for the final render.
