Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

I got the dvds before Alias became Autodesk. I thought they would still sell them though....perhaps try ebay?

Cheers for now

Sorry it is taking a long time, getting it done in drips and drabs.
Still very simple at the moment, will define the character once
I have added more geom to the feet.
Proportions are a little out at the moment, will fix it soon.

Here are some more updates, I have smoothed them
and left the normals Hard so you can see the geom flow.

still alot to do. Proportions are still not right yet...

its coming along.

the bottom half seems very out of proportion comparing to the top half.
i would make the torso bigger, and work on the knees and legs a lot more.
i know you maybe following a tut, but i dont like the way the arms transition from the pecs.
it looks a little odd.

thanks guys, I know there are areas that need work,
will get on it asap (most of it needs some sculpting tool work)
I always thought the legs looked too small in comparision to the torso... will try your suggestion to see if it helps, thanks user added image
Just to let you know I am only working from the ideas and tips of the book Maya-Techniques - Hyper Real Creature Creation
it doesn't really have a step by step guide so it is really difficult for a noobcake like me to get all the proper geom flows at this time but I am trying my best! user added image takes forever...

Just a question, what in your opinion would be the average time to model something like this?

Thanks again all.

Another post, added ears and more definition.
First time doing ears like this so i'm pretty chuffed! user added image

ToxicBunny

A good question but it depends how much you really want to do and how much time you have, if its a portfolio piece then do your damndest, if not do your damndest anyway, you got this far.
You could have a field day and cook this sucker in Zbrush or Mudbox, which would be neat!

Its coming along nicely, maybe bulk the legs a bit more, I know its crouching a bit and it can throw you out, but maybe get some pics of weight lifters to help you along there.

Good stuff

All the way!

Going to go all the way with this character Jay!
some fur\hair, Texturing and animation too...
so i guess it will take a good few months at the pace I'm going user added image

I will really get this character beefed up nicely,
Still working on inside mouth and rest of the face.
Then I can sort out the proportions again and add final details...
Don't have Zbrush or Mudbox, don't know how to use it, though
I will do some displacement maps in photoshop to give awesome
details to renders... but that will come soon enough user added image

I appreciate your support!
cheers
