This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

I've mirrored a hand across the axis, but want to move and postition them independantly but I can't at the moment, I've again tried ungrouping them but maya doesnt like it.

Any suggestions?

if in the duplicate options you have clicked the "Instance" tick box, any copies you make of your original mesh will change accordingly to match any changes implemented to the original.

In other words if you have a cube/hand/whatever and copy it with "instance on", when you move a vert/edge/face on the orginal the same vert/edge/face on the copy will move too.

Could this be your problem?
