rendering paint effects shadows

hey guys,

i have a few paint effects trees and i'm trying to render only the shadows but i have no clue how to do it. i cant give the trees a background shader and if i try to turn off the visiblity the shadows don't appear. Anyone have any ideas on how to approuch this, it would be greatfull. thanks.

In the attribute editor, look for the "Render Stats" tab. under this tab, turn off Primary Visibility as well as Receive Shadows.
