Shadows and composite pictures

i want to add an object to a picture. I created an image plane and light source to match the scene and now i need to immitate the object shadows. can someone help me with this?

render a shadow pass and composite it all together

Try using creating a plane to match the floor, then use a Use Background Material on it and make sure shadows are turned on user added image
