Backward Compatibility?

I Built a model on Maya 8. I then realize that there is no
Actor X available for Version 8. So I reinstall Version 7 and it doesn't open my Version 8 file. WTF? Is there a converter out their for this issue?

yep, save the Maya 8 file as an .ma file and not the usual .mb file.

Then open it in wordpad and change any text containing Maya 8 to Maya 7, save and reopen in Version 7

Ok this worked thank you so much. I did have to switch off my image planes for this to work heres the change I made if anyone one else runs into the problem.

//Maya ASCII 8.0 scene
//Name: test2.ma
//Last modified: Sun, Dec 10, 2006 03:44:51 PM
requires maya "7.0";
currentUnit -l centimeter -a degree -t film;
fileInfo "application" "maya";
fileInfo "product" "Maya Unlimited 8.0";
fileInfo "version" "8.0";

Thank you so much
