For low poly, you probably wouldn't model individual treads but would instead do as you have and have an animated texture simulate the moving.

yeah, the treads are pretty much finished... i just wanted them to look like that wrapped around the wheels.. they kinda look like there a high poly then i would have liked.. maybe i can fix that later

It looks nice, maybe lower the segments on the roadwheels some, they look quite dense.

I agree. You might be able to get away with doing all the wheels in a big transprancy map, depending on what kind of polycount range you're going for.

sorry i'm still rather new, do you mean just fake the wheels and put them in a texture to make it look like they are modeled on there? but in reality its just one texture?.. if so thats pretty creative.. i just need to learn how to do it

ok now i'm starting the understand the key to a low poly model is in the texturing... i'll remember this on my next tank model.. i think i'm just going to continue on with this one.. it should be a nice addition to my portfolio/demo reel

Just depends on what you're going for in terms of polycount. RTS games do that kind of thing a lot.

heh, don't really have a lot of that kind of choice in the industry... you pretty much do whatever the company does. My studio, for example, is doing an rpg and might be doing an RTS before it's over with.
