How to create light rays

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to get some light rays to show in either a still render or animation? For example, when the sun is showing light rays shooting from the clouds, what would be the best way of doing that?

I've tinkered with creating lights and trying to modfy their settings, however (I must be blind!) I cannot find a setting to do this. Please help.

You can also assign the Maya Ocean shader to the color of a light so that it will animated nicely if so desired.

Thanks for the input...I'll give that a shot tonight when I get home...I'll let you know how it goes and try to post my finished job when it's done.
