Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

d4rk3lf - march/april (dwarf steam catapult)

I am in! user added image

Here is the idea...

Dwarf steam catapult

This catapult should be defense catapult and he works with the help of steam engine buildings behind him (actualy, those building can support even 3 catapult at the same time). The fire is burning in one building, then the steam travels throught the pipes and make some preshure. That preshure is make the engine-motor to run up and down that big camel I already model. The camel itself, turn the well.
And now... user added image the weel turns weel, the second weel turns the third, and so on, so the last weel turns the catapult weel, so that spoon on catapult is get streched like the old catapult with ropes.

Becouse this is the dwarf catapult, I we tryed to go with their design simiular like dwarfs in LOTR design. Still lots of work should be done, though. I must add other buildings and engines, and all that anoying little parts like weels, tubes and so on.
So far this scene took me 3 days, or abot 10-11 hours.

Should I mention that C&C are always wellcome...
Please tell if you have any cool idea.

I am honored to be at the same contest with you guys.

it's definitely a nice looking catapult, but I have to say at the moment it's looking more "medieval" than "steampunk". I'm looking forward to seeing more of the theme getting incorporated into your design!

Thanks pal user added image
The catapult itself is a mechanical, but he is loading and prepareing to shot by steam power. I've tryed to explain the proces in my previus post.

Today I have worked on the third building witch is some sort of command center, and armoury for the catapult. What do you think of it?

I have also could not resist to make some preview animation, and here is it.

Thanks to you Some Guy, realy glad you like it.
Hey, there's nothing to much about modeling, just cuting&brushing box. Beleave me, your character is much more complicated to produse than this scene.
Many more details has yet to come.

Here is the wire, as requested...

this is looking awesome d4rk3lf, though I definitely agree that some more steampunk elements will really push this. Love the idea and the overall blocky design.

good job! user added image
