Crashing

I have just got a Radeon 9550-256mb graphics card. Ever since I've started using it, Maya Motionbuilder le crashes randomly. It freezes up for about 5 - 10 seconds, then the monitor light flicks to orange, and the screen goes blank with "no signal" written at the bottom.

Does anyone know what's going on and if there's anything I can do about it?

Thanks.

may be a hardware or driver problem...boot up your computer in safe mode to load the default windows driver and see if you're still having problems. If you are, you know its a hardware problem. If not, try a different driver, either the most recent or an older one.

How do you start up in safe mode? I know that normally when the computer crashes it comes up with the warning screen when you restart, but with this it just turns on as normal.

Thanks

Off the top of my head for windows XP (assuming that your running windows (not sure about mac's)

In the run command line type msconfig and select safe in the boot tab.

When you want to go back to normal mode run msconfig then disable safemode for it to work.

Might be best to check it with a google search on booting in safe mode

too boot in safe mode

turn off pc and then when you turn it on ..keep hitting the F8 key on the keyboard til you get a list of options ...and then pick safe mode.

It works fine in safe mode. I think I've got the most recent driver, I'll have a look for older ones to try. Is there any way of finding out what the most recent driver is?

Thanks, I tried that and I do have the latest drivers.

I did have an older driver, but I updated it because Maya and Motionbuilder were crashing. Is there anything else I can do?

Thanks

here ya go ..look here

https://www.alias.com/eng/support/may...win.html#cards

hahha i got beat to the webpage hehhe

look at video cards ..

if it works in safe mode ...then alot of stuff happens ..you are taken down to easiest drivers to get anything up and any hardware accelaration is shut off also ...so it could be your hardware accelartion got shut off ..also a couple other things are cut off ...

You can have cards that are not on the list and work ..I know one i have is not on it but does fine ... so that is not always true ..Also liek previous said ...drivers older or new ..or even drivers that have been modified might work ...

also I would update to your maya to lastest version if you have not done already

Yeah my cards not qualified, it works but I get some errors now and then, like viewports not updating, missing bit's etc.

Thanks, I've looked it up, my graphics card is not said to be compatible. Does this mean that I will need to get a different one, or is there some way of making the current one work?

well some cards you can get to work and some you cant ... I would just go with easy one and go buy another card ..cause if you twek your card sometimes you lose other options in maya ...if you can ..find a buddy with a card and try his in your pc ... if not I would go buy antoher one ..I had to buy one myself but works great now ..256 meg card works for now til i get another one
