Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

extruding along path

hello everyone,

i got a pretty basic structure i'm trying to work out.

i'm modeling bent steel frame with a pipe connected at the top as shown.

1. the way i did it was draw the cv curve of the shape and extruded along path.

is this the best way to do it, or is it more efficient to start with the pipe shape and pull out the sides? i'm not sure how to do this or what the best way is. or i heard something about deformers, any gold there?

2. the center pipe part is a separate pipe polygon and i'm not sure what the best way to attach it to the bar.

thanks!

Wow, that's a high poly pipe! One way you could do it, pretty much what you did, is make the pipe first, then select the faces where the curved frame will attach, and extrude along path.
