Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Man!!

I thought no one would notice!! Damm guitar players, especially you LOL!!

My 3d Guitar set up is rubbish compared to my own, love a low set up, lazy (rhythm) player!!!!

To be honest that was a rignt pain to get even that close on the 3D model!! And it would be a lot worse to try and fix, so unless I can figure out how to get it right its gonna have to stay a slide guitar!

Cheers dude!

lol user added image i didn't think it would be easy to fix/change user added image dont despair
user added image when i saw the Stones in the 70s, Mike Taylor had two sunburst Les Pauls, both identical except for the action, one was EXACTLY like yours, he used it for slide and it sounded incredible. user added image (but it had a few sctratches user added image )

user added image man looks great, but get it off the table, the environment looks out of place, don't know where 'in place ' would be but not on a kitchen table. I can see the action is still high but i know nothing can be done about that and no-one can see it from that angle, BUT man what a fantastic job you have done of it, astounding (still no scratches lol)

easy fix for 'getting it off the table' would be to add some bump to the wood texture with a few lines so instead it's a floor!

Looks very nice.

Can't say it looks like a table, it looks like a floor. If that was a table it would be huge.

Cheers Guys,

I didnt put any thought into the background to be honest, just wacked a texture onto a poly plane.

Will have to think of a decent environement to put it in.

Cheers

Steve

yea, its a hard one, i couldn't think of an enviroment myself but i just thought the one you have it in is not flattering, is all?? user added image

the guitar looks so good, is all user added image (scratches ??? lol)
from that angle, could you group and move the bridge and strings toward the camera (a fraction) and that way the action would be perfect ??? (aim constraint?? toward the nut??)

Wow, blast from the past this thread.

I made 2 sepperate bits of geo, the plastic bit with the numbers on and then the clear overcoat.

I just then mapped the part with the numbers on textured in Photoshop using a bump map to raise the numbers slightly (you cane see that really untill it goes in really close, applied that to the model then created a clear coat material uisng a blinn for the other part, with a sampler info node connected to a ramp which was then plugged into the relfectivity of the clear coat, so that it reflects more when the camera moves over the object and the object becomes closer ro 90 degrees away from the camera

Probably a bit of overkill to be honest

Thats about it really

Heres a bit of a close up for you, so that you can see the 2 bits of geo to make up the knobs

not a huge fan of these kinds of guitars personally (I like fender and ibanez), but this model is great. And nothing goes better with playing an instrument than some JD... well personally I'd pick a guinness or some jameson... but you get the point.

prefer an Ibenez to a gibson Les Paul ( must have been born in th 80s) ..., my friend, dont say that out aloud when you are amongst a group of guitar players.., you will lose credibility user added image just joking

looks great Gster.
