This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

robot

Hello people,

I was inspired by bahearn81's "robot jones" to build a robot of my own. I have just about finished the upper body apart from tubes and details so I thought it was time for a post. This is the first character I have built so any pointers or ideas can only be encouraging! Cheers,

Greetings good folks!

I've made some thighs and added a bit of detail to the torso. The legs are really frying my head, I'll get there in the end though, must persevere!!! Enjoy,

lol thats real nice man. the only thing that i would do is make the shoulder joints kinda bigger cause it looks like they would support the arm. i may be wrong tho.

Well spotted RubberChicken, I'm using a picture from the matrix comic as a reference. As for the shoulders, I agree, they are a little flimsy at the moment, I'm hoping that adding some tubes and cables should beef them up a bit. Cheers for the input, more pictures soon,

are the parts made from separate objects?

how are you planing to texture it?

i'm struggling with my own mecha model.

your models looks very interesting, would like to see it in animation.

Good morning folks!

Yes the model is made from seperate polygons, as it's my first character I thought i'd keep the modeling as easy as i could (even if the poly count has suffered!!). I'm not sure how I'm going to texture it, any thoughts would be considered. cheers,
