Control Vertex

I'm really really new to Maya. I started off with doing the dog tutorial.
I did the first piece right, but I'm on the second sphere for the mouth. When I select the point in the Control vertex mode, It moves the points on both sides of the sphere. (Kind of like a mirror effect) I've checked every angle to see if I accidentally selected too many points. It does this even when I choose one point. What am I doing wrong?

thanks.

Sounds like when you duplicated the sphere, you had Instance turned on. This would cause that. Reset your duplicate settings.
