Opinions about my first castle?

Hi Guys,

I'm learning MAYA 5 on my own and i'm hoping you guys can give opnions on my first project the Castle.

I was inspired buy a sketch scene i found in one of the threads here.

Im using Polys and nurbs.

The walls(brown) and roof are polys and the towers too (red), the roof of the flag tower is a extrude face.

The blocks on the roof of towers and the ones around the edge of the roof with the sharps end are poly cubes with extruded face(blue)

the Archs below the edge of the roof, the windows and main entrance edges are curves lofted and planar.

But I notice that, when making the main entrance hole i had to use curves to loft the edges of the entrance and make a planar
from teh curves to make the wall, so in fact the fron wall is a nurb surface.

Does this will affect badly when apply textures?

Any suggestions to add to the castle?

Am I using the correct tools to create this? Any input will be appreciated!!!!!

Looks good so far...Don't forget to bump up the options for the dmap shadows so it's not so jaggedy.

You'll want to put a bevel on your edges, as no real surface comes to a perfect point!
