Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

character development

Just started my work in progress, just wondering does the the hand look ok...I am thinking more of the spaces between the fingers??

Ideally I want to rig the character and animate afterwards it is in its low poly stages at present ?

Hi silverspawn
I dont know if you are going to model this totaly in maya but if so you should have a bit more polys, each finger having six sides not four and you thumb should be at the side of the hand........dave

Edit:sorry did not answer you question I think it will be a case what detail you need to animate you scene

Yes this will be totally modelled in maya, sorry the shot is a little poor, the character is in his block stages at ther moment, so there is no detail at all, the fingers do actually have 6 sides is just the angle I have took the shot.....but I will gladly post more shot as and when I add more detail user added image

Just want to make sure I am going about this in the right way...so there is no odd creases when I hopefully get round to animate it .

Looks good for blocking. Make sure you use references though. This is also a good place to start taking a look into how you want your edge loops to flow, as you see, at the moment the shoulders are only being defined by one edge.

Keep going!

Looking good, looks like you have a poly with more than 4 side hope you dont mind but add a fix (add edge in green, delete edge in red), try making poly with four sides if you can............dave

Check out the topology thread sticky at the top of this forum.

There are lots of examples of topology and edge lay out in there that should get you going.

Cheers
