Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

Your models are looking great but your renders are a bit too dark to see the detail.
I think you are right about the sword, why should a pirate have the same sword as usual? Pirates traveled from country to country stealing and killing, so I'm sure they would sometimes pickup different weapons as they go.
Like my pirate for example which has a Samaria sword.
