help with subdivision lines

How do I turn all the lines off when I put in subdivisions? The book I'm using just shows the vertices, but there isn't any lines. Thanks for the help.

They're just the face normals that are being displayed, extending from the little green dot on the center of each face.

Select the object then goto Display->PolygonComponents->Normals, and they should all dissapear.
