Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Veyron

Hello,

I've not been round for a while, busy busy busy!!! Anyway I've got some time off over Christmas and new year so I thought I'd use everything I learned from Robert Scotts ferrari tutorial to make a car on my own. Here it is so far, feedback would be cool.

Cheers,

Mat.

Yeah, its a start, but the render is a bit dark, a bit of the detail is lost. Well, keep it up, and nce start!

Cheers for your thoughts folks.

I've made some wheels for this and it is starting to look like a complete car now. I will make a start on the engine next, you can't see but there is a large hole where it should be!

I'll have some more pictures soon,

Mat.

Thanks for the nice words everyone.

I've made the engine now, not much more to do before I can colour it in, woo-hoo! The lights will be next I think.

Are you going to do the brake calipers and what not, or just leave it as is?

the wheels look a bit big, not sure, look at this reference
if i was you i would try to make it as stock as possible

looking at it more closely im noticing a lot more differences, the front grill is a lot shorter on the real thing and the headlights are shaped quite different

You're right about the wheels Dan, they are a little on the large side. The radiator grill is the right height but it needs to be set deeper into the body. I think the light covers need an edge on them, they are just poly planes at the moment (they are next on my list). I have noticed another crease, below the front lamps, that needs to be added. And the list goes on.

Kartzan, I will be adding discs and calipers to the wheels.

Thanks for your input,

Mat.

hi mat!

admiring your work here! I have trouble myself with those straight/homogenic/very precise forms like you did with your car. maybe I´ll get me this dvd too. guess it´s nurbs - or is it poly?

Hey there Falott,

thanks, the car is made with poly's. It is a low poly model converted to sub-d where you use the edge crease tools to define the shape then it's converted back to poly. It is pretty easy as long as you have good reference pictures and you follow the contours of whatever you are modelling when you make the low poly model.

Here's an update, I've made the wheels smaller (not sure that you can tell from this render though!), shaped the lamp covers, and set the radiator grill deeper into the body. I also put the inside wheel arches in.

edit. I put that extra crease in too!

dont know, it looks great, but still I think that the wheel crease is a bit too sharp. all else much better, at least from wat I see
