Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

I was thinking that it might be nice to create a challenge that would be a useful exercise for future employment, which got me to thinking that you might be asked to recreate something exists for FX purposes.
So i propose a challenge to recreate a famous monument either of the users choice or maybe even a specific monument.

Damn.

John's idea would be cool. Cooler yet, if we could put our own spin on it, like the Lincoln statue thing with someone else sitting there or something

Well okay, but then you have to animate it to make it fair.

I was thinking about a challenge based on those photos where people create imaginative scenes with eggs. I think a mini challenge like this will be suitable for all skills levels since the challenge is really about imagination, only rule is (and I haven't thought it out completely) that you cannot add anything to your scene that isn't possible in reality because what makes these scenes so cool is the fact that everyday day items are used so creatively. So if you're a beginner, you'll still learn about modeling, texturing, shading/lighting and composition and if you're experienced well, you can have a bit of fun letting your imagination run wild.

I would suggest a steampunk character challenge, as hi or lo poly, real or cartoony as you want but the theme should be from a film

well, the subject of challenge makes no odds to me user added image, but I would like to see a conclusion as it's been a while since the last challenge was started.

May the good times and treasures of the present become the golden memories of tomorrow.
