help on the tie fighter

I got to the point where i hid the grid, but when i maximize side view and create a sphere poly. I can;t see the poly and it doesn;t show up where the video shows

Hmm. I don't have the video, but maybe you just need to press the f key to frame it.

I changed the alpha on the plane, now i can see it but i also see my wireframe alpha as well lowered. How do i make both bright and able to see?
