Use geometry as paint fx

Is there a way to convert geometry I have created to be used as a Paint FX brush?

I have created a barnacle for an underwater scene and it would be far easier and faster to have this geometry as a paint fx brush, so I could then just paint strokes and have many barnacles produced.

I see that the paint fx brushes in the Visor are .mel scripts. Maybe there is a way to replace the information in the .mel file with my geometry information and save the .mel as a new paint fx brush.

Thanks.
