Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Zel712_FX02_WIP

I'm going to attempt Mouse Trap.
I got the game when I was 5 so I have the added benifit of actually having pieces to photograph, measure, hold, throw against a wall in frustration, and set up to check their motion/movement. That all really helps, I think.

I have a really primitive progression chart, but I'm having trouble actually getting it on here. Any suggestions?

Alrighty. Just had to shrink it a bit. I'm so glad most of you are on the other side of the planet, fast asleep.

OK, so I've already done the cage and it's yellow stick thingy.

looks like a good start - might be nice to add siome of your own ideas and variations - just to mix it up a bit... user added image

Thanks, but wouldn't the guys from Mouse Trap have a problem with that?

2 questions

1: Who can tell me how to make a mirror texture?

and 2

I'm making the blue ramp . Now the little ball has 3.14 seconds to get down the ramp as soon as the bucket starts moving. Right now , with normal dynamics, its about 1000 frames. ( in other words as slow as hell)
It has to get done in less than a hundred.
Any ideas? Am I allowed to key it?

As far as I am aware keying is allowed, but the majority of it has be dynamic.

Becareful on keying something like that, as It may take a little longer or a little shorter for it to get to its destination, this in turn will put out your keyed frame.

I am having this issue at present and am working around it, it may need a little MEL to detect when something touches something else for it to start the small animation

I have another idea around it, thats more dynamic, but be careful with keying as if it goes wrong it will show. I am only using 1 keying session for 10-15 frames to animate the start of mine.

Thanks man

Just a note, I'm not sure I'll be able to complete the project in the time frame. I had surgery and it set me back a bit. I'll try to complete mousetrap, but it probably won't be for a while.
Good luck to all the other entries!

Keep trying tho, because even if your project isn't complete, simply render what you do have, and maybe it will be good enough, who knowsuser added image

I've been struggling with this sequence.

I keyed the red stopsign that hits the boot, and then tried to have dynamics and gravity do the rest of the movement wih the boot. Sounds simple. Swing, whack, boot swings up. Of course maya thinks its a stupid idea.
Where do I find a hinge constraint again? Maybehaps I can figure it out...

Also, any tips on getting the cogs to co-operate? I'll probably have to key the first movement, but I can't get the yellow cog to respond to the red one at all. It's just going to be something simple, but I can't seem to see it. Anybody know where I can find a good tutorial for animating cogs?

Maya just loves freezing up, doesn't it?
