nick = nickname = username
And yes, of course a bot could use smileys. You know it's not more complicated to write =) than to write "Great".

These bots have a bunch of phrases which they choose random and insert in messages.

there are programs that automate registration process, thats why its easy for spammers to flood this site.
an easy way to get rid of spammer is for the programmer of this site to implement a way that requires random input.
such as secret letter codes like this one.

screw them, its a drag on SM though, I'm really sorry to see such a generous lot attacked in this way. The intersting thing is this thread is becoming a Tech thread, I find it interesting; I'm learning things I never knew user added image (I'm not a bot, I'm a person too' 'john merrik') user added image

Yeah i though they gave up aswell Jay, guess not.

about what Vlad said, i agree...ived posted this before in the 6th page, but ill post it again... its kind of what vlad suggested. its somewhere in this site but forgot where it is, sorry. On one of the pages it shows the programmer how to install the plugin or add it into your script/language for if they your using html, css or whichever way/program they have created this site in.

hope this helps ...
