Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Sept/Oct - Noob - papalatistudios

Well I think Ill try this challenge out.

It will be my first time working with Zbrush though so I dont know how long this is going to take me. Hopefull done by Nov 1.

The character that I have decided to go with is....

Earthworm Jim.

I will be using Maya 7.0, photoshop, and zbrush.

If I have time I will go back and do a low poly version.

Im currently working on getting my internship application/portfolio ready for January but I could use a break I think.

Concept Sketches

I thought I would start out by doing some concept sketches.
After I did a couple of these I realized it wasnt working. He wasnt exagerated enough. I tried to make him thinner more realistic and that just isnt going to work with earthworm jim. So I think I will keep him seudo realistic. Maybe Pixarish.

Updated Concept/ Pre Model Sheet

This is what I got after I exaggerated his chest by enlarging it and making his legs really thin. I think it works so I will go ahead and take these 2 and make a model sheet and get started.

Model WIP

Thanks T1ck!

Okay here are some pics of my early poly model. I usually start with a low poly version and then go back and start to add more detail. Probably another day and I will be done with the low poly model. Ill then go back in and switch to subdis and creases and what not. Since it is earthworm jim I am thinking about making his head part the whole worm like in the original game. I will also model his reimagend gun as well.

Updated WIP

Here is another hours worth of work.

I am making improvs as I model. For example the jetpack.
I dont think EJ ever had one so I added one in the concept but decided to go with something more practical.
