I advise all of you who don't like the pop-ups (including myself ofcourse) to download Mozilla or Phoenix as webbrowser (or any other that I may overlook). These will stop all this sh*t from appearing on top of your screen.

find it here: https://www.mozilla.org

ya the problem with that is then the adds on those sites get no passing trade so the they just get bigger and flashier with move sophisticated ways of avoiding the add and pop up killers.

From a readers' Q and A column in TV GUIDE: "If we get involved in a nuclear war, would the electromagnetic pulses from exploding bombs damage my videotapes?"

until.... you will need to basically "turn off ALL images" in you browser to stop them, which kind of defeats the purpose of a gfx site user added image

I don't understand why you're getting all upset on this and now just 'let it happen'user added image .
These browsers really do work, so why not give it a try?

ofcourse, if you're all perfectly happy with Internet Explorer I won't stop you from using it. Just letting you know there are (imho better) alternatives.

read the above posts.. its not a case of letting it happen mate user added image

If every body gets these browsers then all the companys will still need to advertise so will just embed them as normal images.. all them browsers do is stop pop ups.

They dont stop sites having MASSIVE flashing ads all over them

Another problem with switching browser sofware is the standards compliance issue as well.

What one browser supports, the other does not, so that's another LONG-TIME annoyance of mineuser added image

Also, what if you WANT pop-ups? Like for example, a gallery window, or whatever?

Now they will have to be embedded, like Dave said, into the pages directly, KILLING any fast access from the 56K modem community, and screwing-up an already clean/usable design!

POOPY I SAY! hehe...

by pop-ups I ment the dumbass commercial things that cover your screen, not something that's really part of the website.

as for those standards compliance issues you say. Do you mind giving some examples? I'm not sure what you mean by that.

well I've tried Phoenix before (witch is based on the Mozilla engine) and it doesnt have things that IE does...like for example when somebody uploads a picture to the forums, with Phoenix, I can't see the picture... because the file doesnt end with a file extention like .jpg...

there are good and bad things about IE and Mozilla...it's just a matter of preference

The problem, however, is that the "pop-up-killers" don't know the difference between a pop-up advert, and a launched pop-up window with more site content.
...unless you tell them, which is VERY tedious...

Sure CSS2, and CSS-P is my MAJOR consern at the moment.
(though they are pretty much the same beast) user added image

I'd give you a few examples of my gripes, but there are SO many, so do a search for CSS tutorials, and trust me, you should be able to find a LOT of headache articles and rants regarding CSS compliance issues....

Speaking of dodgy advertising....On my way down to London at Christmas, the train I was on stopped at Bedford (I think it was correct me if im wrong) and the station was sponsored by TK-MAXX. Now, sponsorship of a train station is one thing, but TK-MAXX??!!!

Kinda says alot about Bedford doesnt it...user added image
