Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world

Ear Tutorial: Transparency problem
Just wondering about the Ear tutorial. I couldn't adjust the transparency after I use the Create Polygon tool. I went to Attribute Editor and I couldn't see any shading of the polygon I created. Any help is appreciated.
