Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

after effects - quick need help with color correction

Had to leave Maya alone the last few days to get the music video we been working on finished for Monday.

Got a small problem - a lot of the footage was filmed with yellow lights all around (shot at night in a car park - not a lot we could do about it).

Does anyone know of a quick way to make the footage more normal (eg remove a lot of the yellow ) in After effects or even in premiere (I still have my CS3 bundle fully installed so software not a problem here)
or any helpful sites on it would be great

We have to give it in on Monday 3pm.

Thank guys - hope you can help

Sure, no probuser added image

Just for future reference, you never really want to do anything in an editing app other than editing.
You always want to do your post work in a post app, etcuser added image

In After Effects in general, add an "Adjustment Layer(s)" to correct the overall color of your shot.

If your camera is moving, then a small amount of targeted grading/color corection may be required so as to not over-color certain parts of the footage.

If you like, as I do this for a living, I would be more than happy to help you do the color work for you if you feel you want to concentrate on other things.

Just an optionuser added image

Otherwise, another alternative for you is if you can get me an uncompressed single still frame I can do a generic color grade and create an After Effects preset for you that is specific to your overall spot that you can simply apply to a master adjustment layer and render.

Up to you.

First thank you very much.

I would love to just let you do it but at the moment its still at about 96 gigs worth of information (and I have it all backed up aswell so close to 200 gigs) and I would say a good 40% of the video was shot in this car park with yellow lights.

I just went into Affect Effects and looked at the Adjustment Layer but have no idea what to do if it. Me sending you the image sounds like the plan, but some instruction on what to do once I am in affect effects might be needed as I only ever use it for basic putting together of images from Maya.

We did have some one to do this but he moved to Canada and left me in the lurch a bit.

There are some steady cam shot and some fix shots so there is a lot of movement in every shot really.

its about 2.3 megs and looks like this just bigger

Again anything you can do will be very greatful

cheers

Hows this?
The color cast was REALLY intense, so a LOT of adjustment had to be done to the yellow shadows and flared highlights.

But, the correction brought back the whites on the subjects' shirt, the blue sign in the background on the pole, and allowed the yellow sign to poke through on the wall to the right above the blue can.

I'll post the preset and usage instructions in a sec.

Compare this to your original shot above, and lemme knowuser added image

Ok, here is the preset for you to correct the portions of the video where the yellow is like your sample image.

USAGE:

1. Unzip the preset to your After Effects Presets directory:
i.e. Adobe CS3 > Support Files > Presets
(you can also create a folder in there for your personal presets to find them quicker in the future)

2. Add an adjustment layer above your problem footage.
(Layer > New > Adjustment Layer)

3. Select your adjustment layer and in your Effects and Presets panel, double-click on the preset to apply it to the layer.
(if your effects and presets panel is not open go to:
Window > Effects and Presets)

4. now just trim the adjustment layer to only those parts that have the problem, and this preset will correct the yellow castuser added image

Good luck!

OMG thank you - works wonders

This is saving me hours of work

I don`t know what else to say - I`m blown away with the speed that was done.

Its a Christmas miracle (OK a bit over the top now - but man I`m just happy)

One final question - is there a trim tool in AE as I can`t find it anywhere

Sure, just drag either-end (or both) of the adjustment layer handles (just like premiere) to fit it over the portion of your shot you need, and then simply duplicate the adjustment layer (ctrl+d) and move/slide it to the next place you need, and adjust the handles as neededuser added image

Nah, just him.

If all his messages are the same, I might ban him.

Looks like a game services forum-spam attempt.

Click the picture.
"Internet and phone communications have been severely affected between Europe, the Middle East and Asia"

Taiwan and to a lesser extent Singapore.

Either-way his email address hailed from china, plus nothing he said made any sense, and was similar in all posts and his sig included links to a commercial service.

...if you are still concerned, I "can" bring him back if you like? hehe..
