Format Conversion ...

How can I bring a “Unigraphics” file format into Maya 2011. Also, I’m running a Mac Pro and OSX 10.6.4.

uni -> IGES -> maya

Have tessellation set to a high value.

Also look into okino polytrans.

The client is supplying the Uingraphics file. I'll have to do any conversions. I'm still not clear on how to get this into Maya. Do I need a separate software conversion program? In your workflow, how do I get to a IGES format? And I've heard IGES files are a real pain to work with in Maya.

Not sure what to recommend. I just did a fast search and saw the suggestion to try to go from unigraphics to IGES.

Look into a program called polytrans from okino. It may have a unigraphics to maya translator.

If there is no direct way to go from unigraphics (whatever that format is) to maya you will need to get the data into some intermediate format that maya can digest unless you want to write your own translator.
