Ah, I think I understand.

Well, if I'm right, then the solution is to find the preference file and uncheck the "read only" attribute in the file properties

Then it should save your preferences.

Nah,
I tried that to all files and folders within my maya program directory and the problem persists.

You have to find the preference file, and this is usually located in:

win2000Prof

c:/documents and settings/yourname/my documents/maya/4.x/prefs

Take a look at the few files in that folder.

Are you sure that NONE of the prefs files are checked as "read only"?

do one thing... but the preferences will reset.... be aware

go to your documents folder.. and then look for maya... then goto 4.5 and then delete the Prefs folder.... then re open maya again... all are reset... set your preferences and you will be ok..

Warning: your current preferences will all be gone.... but according to you they dont save so its ok... but for the others.... the latter will happen!

You can also just move your current prefs file into another folder for safe keeping just incase you want to use it again.
