File Open Trouble

I have maya 2009 at home and that's what i use to work on
"HOMEWORK". I have 2008 in school, the problem is that i can't open my 2009 file in 2008, but i can do it vise versa. It's driving me crazy having to start all over in school just because I can't convert or open my 2009 file in 2008.

So please does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do, because It would surely help me out a lot. Thank you for your time.

Go to open file options and check 'ignore version'.
Also, try saving the file as an *.ma, opening it with notepad and change the line that says 'version required'.
