Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Flickering Bump Map

Hey,

I am in the middle of a dynamics showing cloud/smoke from the rear of an asteroid is it hurtles through space.

But I seem to have hit a snag....

Asteriod 5 Mov (Use WMP to play)

the bump map seems to flicker as it plays, as if every frame has a difference bump map setting. I am not using default lighting, but 2 area lights to light the scene. motion blur has been added also (default settings)

Does anyone know why this is happening? Is it the lighting type I am using?

Thanks

PS. Here's a still image

you may need to parent the shader node to shape node to prevent this from happening. Either that you maybe baking the material that contains the bump?

mhcannon,

Thx for the advise...

I have removed the textures and have redone it. and tidied up the cloud particles and lengthed them.

The new texture setup seems to have sorted the issues I faced.

Here is a link to the new animation...

Asteroid 6 (Try not ot watch this in Quicktime as its jerky at the start, use WinMP)

Heres a screeney

Having sorted this I now know it was a fool thing to do to apply a 3D texture as a bump map, once I used a 2D one everything was OK suprisingly...

DO'H
