thanks everyone, much appreciated

THX1138 - just polys. I realised that for the most they are straight lines so I just used an 8 sided cylinder, extruded it, did a couple of cuts in areas that needed to be bent and rotated the verts. The string wrapped around the pegs are just cylinders with a few cuts that are pulled towards the center. A duplication and minor resize worked for all the other string thickensses.
A bit of a cheat and a little time consuming but I think it worked

I will go back and do the nurbs circle along a path method (not done it yet) as that would be sooo much faster

Fallenswordsman - the festive cheer might make it hard to finish but I'll try - beers up!

dont they?
thats it then, there are too many people who say that they can't always see the stuff
I'm after a new host starting monday.

Hosting running php would be preferable but if it ends up being just standard html then that'll have to do.

hehe, dont you think I've perfected the red x then? its kinda of pseudo 3D (if you look real close you might see a drop shadow)

just signed up for another host (I deal with for work) so hopefully I can get it all across this weekend or early next week. Hopefully *everybody* will be able to see the stuff from then on and give more criticism as thats what I'm after

Thanks mike and mayafreak3, its definately appreciated

I've not had any time to do the uv mapping etc this weekend. Also might not get enough time to look into shaders, mental ray, HDRI etc so the main goal is just to get a basic texture on.
