Default Rigid bind stretching problem. Why is this happening?

(rigid bind) Well you see, when i paint set membership on the character and the character is in some kind of pose. you can basically see the horrible stretches and all. Now on those stretches, there are NO points(set membership). Points are assigned to different joint. But if i lets say move the arm up. I can see bad defromations under the armpit area. Now the thing is, there are no points in that area and so there is no way to fix it. While i would still have points for the the joints around it. Yet this area seems empty.

I never had a problem like this before. Please let me know if you know what's going on.
