Clipping planes

The camera clipping planes are too near, when i drop in a primitive i can barely see half of it, now i have adjusted the clipping planes via the preference menu but it doesnt appear to have made a difference, what settings do you use? or could it be something else though i doubt it.

regards

I can imagine using the camera's attributes for the clip planes if you haven't already.
