Cant get glow to work...

Or so I recall from my experience with glow fx.Well I guess you just turn the glow value up from "0" and voila.

i made a sphere then in the phong attributes i turned on glow to 1.000 and rendered.. but nothing hapened. ive even tried changing the color of the object. but still nothing.
