Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

hardware texturing

Hello everyone.

I am trying to learn how to texture. I finally figured out how to make a proper uv-map that seems to be working using hardware texturing, but as soon as i render it, it looks terrible.

The model is just for practice texturing, so i kept it as simple. as possible.

Does anyone know what happened to this poor little fellows texture ?

For texture etc work I would really recommend using the software renderer, the hardware renderer is used mostly for particle work rather than straight out renders, the reason your textures are stretched is due to an uneven UV map, you need to spread out your UV face a little to stop the distortion.

i guess i didn't explain myself too well....
That is how it looks when i render it! Both with mental ray hardware and software settings. The only time it looks kinda normal is when i look at it in with hardware texture on in the work area.

Well, user added image
ur first pic seems like u drew the texture correctly but it was tiled when it was projected. so it clearly shows the painted texture repeatedly on the whole model. ur second pic shows that ur texture is correctly on ur UV's but u should adjust ur render settings or increse ur texture resolution coz ur texture is pixelated. make sure that ur texture is not repeated check this in ur texture files 2d placement's repeat Uand repeat V. n increase ur texture resolution. n render it in production quality and 1200/720 resolution.
hope it will help u. enjoy ur work man. user added image
thnx:bow:
