Snapping Issue!

So I am modeling a building in maya 2008, but I'm running into a snapping issue. I can't get an object I am moving, whether whole or verts/faces to stop snapping. Here is what I have looked at the try and solve my problem, the magnets at the top of the screen are all unchecked, in settings preferences, my snap tolerance under snapping is off. I have restarted maya a few times, my computer to no avail. Any other ideas? Please let me know asap....email me at torres_tko@yahoo.com or msg me here on this posting.

I figured it out after a good hour of frustration and modeling by typing numbers into the translate slot. You go to transformation tools drop box and uncheck discrete move!

Under Modify-Tranformation tools-Move. The submenu should show up on the right and you can uncheck discrete move. user added image

Thank you. It's always best to explain the solution. Some people on here are still new to Maya and may not know where to find things from simple descriptions.
