Can, you convert the Ti4800 into the Quadro? Or just 4200? And what about 4600?

Any gf4 ti(not sure about mx...) can be soft quadro modded, but it won't be as good as a real quadro.

The modded radeon will perform exactly the same as the firegl.

The only difference between a soft quado and the real thing is the way anti aliased lines are implemented. Aside from that they are the same(ie no difference in performance/stability).

Before going down the ATi route (which are indeed excellent cards for games) I'd check out some of the other forums for reports on how the FireGLx/z1 drivers are behaving... there were a great deal of reports on instability and artifacting in maya with the earlier drivers, and unless ATi have fixed them I'd steer clear imo.

i dont have the £700 for a quadro FX1000 so id have to go with ATi, unless a quadro4 980XGL works good in games as well?
