godly rays

hey everyone, it's been a while since i've posted but i've been busy trying to land a job! anyways, my question is, does anyone have a clever method of creating underwater godrays without using volumetric fog lighting. i'm thinking simple geometry and transparency maps, i just need a push in the right direction.
cheers, the juce

Try a vertical plane, with a SINE deformer made to "ripple" a bit in one direction.

Then just map it with a LIGHT - colored lambert, with a ramp for transparency.
