Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

ih, i duno about tuts for modeling a tree, if u wana model it id start with making a rigid circular kinda shape using the create poly tool, then extrued it upwards add horizontal divisions then move verts around, add branches and stuff, leaves wud be harder but u cud just make one and copy/paste it, or maybe just make a flat square plane and in photoshop draw and paint the leaves and then use a transparency map or something to make it look like there are individual leaves, if u dont wana do all that theres some trees in the maya visor

Unless you're doing this just to see if you can make a tree, I'd recommend using paint effects and playing with various settings for whichever treetype you use. Once you're happy with the look of the tree you can always convert it to polygons.

yes, experiment with the attributes in the channel box or attribute editor. Numbers of items (branches, leaves, etc) are usually under a "seed" setting.
