Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

I know there are a few programs out there that allow you to interactively paint onto a 3D object, in real-time/real-space, but they aren't cheap.

One example is Right Hemisphere's "Deep 3D" ($595)

https://www.righthemisphere.com/produ..._UV/index.html

Of course, I'm sure you're not going to pay even $100 (let alone $600) just to paint one model! I'm just letting you know in case you'd like to look further into this and see if you can find a freebie version (not that freebie stuff really works the best :p).

EDIT:

Looks like a site with some legit freeware, but I didn't browse it completely, so I don't know if there is a program (like above) there.

rigging the foot...

I worked on this free 3d-palace maya dreadnought tutorial a while ago and was perplexed trying to figure out how the rig the foot. I had some time this weekend to tinker around with it and figured it out.

I set up a simplified version of the foot and leg and then used aim constraints and some parenting to rig the pistons on the toes so that they operate properly when the leg or toes are rotated..

link to an avi of the working linkages: https://home.comcast.net/~rmulawa/3dp...ise/foot01.avi

link to the maya file: https://home.comcast.net/~rmulawa/3dp...cise/foot01.ma

If there are enough interested in how to rig a piston setup like this I'd be happy to whip up a vid capture of the process.

Cheers,
Rick M.
