In order to drag and drop the sound file into Maya's time slider, you'll need to convert it to a .wav file.
Here's one such program I found on download.com:

15) You cannot shorten or lengthen the provided clips. You can, if you'd like, change their pitch.

I would like to enter the animation contest but I have two questions for you:
1). I am not sure if I will have time to complete the project so when is the submission deadline?
2). I have done animation in Animation:Master before but only a little bit in Maya, so would I be classed as Newbie?
