This tutorial takes you through the modeling of Burt the Cartoon Dinosaur. Special attention is paid to creating nice topology with quads and an edge flow that can easily be rigged and animated. So if you have some experience in Maya and you're looking to learn character modeling this is a good place to start.
We're working in Maya 2016, but you can follow along fine in any earlier version. Step-by-step scene files are included, and when you complete this project you will be able to create cartoon characters based on your own designs.
The second volume in this series which covers the UV layout, texture painting, shading and lighting of Burt can be found here.
