Tutorial Overview

Welcome to this Simply Maya project on how to make it snow where we'll cover the start to finish process of creating an animation of snow using Maya’s particle dynamics system. Topics covered in this tutorial are;
  • Particle Simulations in Maya
  • Creating Snow
  • Maya Sprite Wizard
  • Creating Sprite Images in Photoshop
  • Colliders for Sprite Particles
  • Melting Snowflakes
In part one we go over the process of using Maya's Sprite Wizard to assign sprite images to our particles, and we also cover how you go about customizing your sprites and take a look at some of the sprite attributes. We drop into Photoshop briefly to show how you can create your own sprite images. In part two we create a collider for the particles and cover how to make our sprites collide with the ground and melt away. Credit goes to Michael Mckinley from Zombie Studios for creating the original snow tutorial. If you've previously downloaded our old tutorial you can download this one free of charge. You might also want to check out our Particle Dynamics Rain Tutorial, it's similar to this one but covers some different tools and techniques which can be very useful when working with Maya's particle dynamics system.
