yea for those of you who don't know, afro samurai is a short but awesome anime whose main character's voice was dubbed by none other than samuel l. jackson.

layed out the uv's will start texturing tomorrow;)
update, just used th 3d paint tool to mark out the detail, on afro, just to aid me while i texture:eek:

oh wow - very nice jali! :)
one thing though - in the side view - it looks like he's leaning back too much. i can see you're going for a relaxed stance - i think you just need to work on the center weight of the character - maybe try pulling the pelvis and top half of the body forward and give the knee more of a bend.

Thanks man all these compliments are going to cause my head to swell:eek: about the leaning thing, yeah you're right but that is how he was in the reference pictures, how ever i will take on board what you have stated and make some changes
started texturing, needs alot of work, but at least its a start:p

alright!!! almost at the finish line now:attn: ,
tweeked the texture some more today finaly did the hair, after alot of trouble, i think the hair came out preety good for my first ever attemt at alpha hair;) , the model stands at 3766 tris, however afater the alpha was applied i notices you could still see the scalp so i may add more hair geo:p

from the front view the hair looks amazing! there's some bald spots and distinct flat poly lines from the other two views... but it's definitely getting there!

thanks man!!, yeah i know, i didn't realise once the alpha was applied that the scalp would show through like that,
any advise on getting the hair to look better would be much appreciated,
i'm going to work on some more later today, i'm going to add more hair geo and see if that helps, hell i still have like 300 tris to spare so i suppose i might as well use them on the hair

No Idea?
Anyhow keep up the good work mate
styled the hair geo to match afro's hair and worked the texture a little more, preety much finished now, just a few touch ups here and there and i'll be finished, i have to say though this was a really good learning experince, :attn: this is actually the 3rd model i have ever textured, so i'm still new to that side of things and was also the first time i ever used alpha masks, in conclusion a i had a relatively problem free pleasent time
ready for my close up!!!!
messed around with the lighting, i dont know how but, i some how got it to look more anime like

jali - the textures are looking great - well done - i really love that last picture.
I gotta say though - i still think his pose is really letting this down - he looks like he's leaning back too much. i know you said that it matches the ref, but if that's the case, then the refs are wrong! post them up so we can see. :)

thanks for all the comments man, much appreciated,
you're probably right about him leanning back, i'll get working on it, as for reference pics, well they were just two pics that were the best i could find in oder to model afro, so maybe they weren't the most accurate,
also i intend on having him in a different pose to what hes in now,
so it isn't too big a deal, but i do see where you're coming from
hazaa!!!!!!!!! 1000 hits, :attn:
now i can say i'm a real man:p
