I'm assuming the dark patches are texture?
If so why not adjust the colour gain in the file texture?
That helps lighten/normalize what you saw in PS vs what you get in renders.

Also you might try render layers and compositing the image together to get the look you want.

it's... a blue phone booth for making police calls?

it is a fictional time machine actually.

Looks good. Are you planning on doing the oddly huge interior?;)

I think the texture is a too deep, dark blue

BTW have you never watched doctor who!?

yeah the blue looks way too saturated - it needs to be toned down.

might be cool to make some of the interior as well - maybe do an animation with the door open and the camera flying inside to reveal the impossibly large space. :)

Have I ever watched Dr Who!!!

What a question... as a brit I am deeply offended to have been asked such a question :p

Yes love the new show...

I know the colour isnt quite right yet and I am playing with this in both PS and the material.

I wont be doing the interior as of yet as I dont have too much personal time atm, with work and family.

I was actually talking to NeoStrider, s/he seemed to think it was just a police box
model looks good but it needs windows

arran

you can see it on bbc america. i wouldn't say it's popular though. i saw one of the new episodes - it didn't do too much for me.

You can also catch it on Sci-Fi every Friday after the
Sarah Jane adventures :headbang:

This latest episode of Dr Who was great! Though were about 3 or 4 episodes behind here in the states.

Anyway, the Tardis is looking good!

It has windows!
alot better ;)
texture seems alittle pale though
BTW the special effects in yesterdays episode seemed alittle cheap. I think they blew most of there buget on the sultarians episodes

yeah, i did notice the cheap flame effect to simulate the gun fire. But it was still a good episode.

Hey cool, I modelled a TARDIS a few years back also, although I seem to have misplaced the file, if I find it though I'll paste a render here.

However, I do still have my Dalek that I modelled a few years back.

elephantinc

nice dalek :)
one thing, the little balls should be a slightly paler shade from the main body

Here is a composited test, still bits to do, like shadows and tweaking the lighting.

Also need to redo the position to bring the front more inline and flatter to the image. Not bad for my 1st ever composite tho :D

looks better now its in an enviroment
good work ;)

Hey Chris, looks great, but that aint London!!

I dont know if you have, but if you have then I would give them edges a bevel as its looking a tad harsh.

And break up the shadow a touch as its a bit dark

Looking good...

I've never done composite rendering before... can anyone reference me to a tutorial or give me a short guide on how it's done?

Cheers.

Jup also match up the shade to the image shade.

Cheers folks

yeah the shadow is harsh atm... I am countering the shadow atm with a point light due to the directional light having to be so bright, so adjusting the point light should lighten it. I am using 3 ambient lights, 1 Direction Lights and a point light.

Steve, I see wot u mean on the edges, ive not seen it before as its the fist big render I've done, so well spotted. LOL london m8... My Doctor travels and visited Basil !!! Its still from my misses' trip to Switzerland, theres a huge space than is empty in the front of the photo so its ideal, oh unlike most of her pisctures its in focus :p

I usually keep my renders as my desktop background, so this puts it in my field of view and I can pick faults...

Rage did a vfx tutorial and it can be grabbed from here:

http://www.simplymaya.com/movie_pages/tutorial.mhtml?tut_id=35

Its free and he goes over it well.

To do this one I am using an application called Fusion by eyeon (the creators of Vue). Its very good and the easiest one I have used yet.
