Hi everybody.

Going for a new job at Splash Damage and I have to do a art test for it.

Basically I have to build this

http://www.splashdamage.com/images/content/arttest_concept02.jpg

With 20,000 Tri`s fully textured and add my own personal touch to it. - Now here`s the thing.

20,000 tri`s - I have built the whole thing in just over 4,000 which is really making me wonder is low poly really low poly any more ??? - I mean I have even started being my own bits on to the scene and think there is quite abit of detail on there. Maybe its just me. Anyway I know this is going to be mostly down to the texturing but here is my W.I.P on the model so far

Just got to do the hand rails and then I`m cracking on with the textures before I add more of my own things.

I think "low poly" is now a relative term. Looking good so far.

Cool! tileable :)
I found some as well for the last challenge but I remember having trouble with the size... I needed it torn up anyway so I couldn't use a tileable texture...
Thanks anyway...

I always am very impressed by your work, Tweety. This is no exception :)

But yeah, what kind of limit is 20,000? What could you do with all of those? meh, I like good ol' fashioned N64 polycounts, you know?

do you have to bake the lights and do that coloured verts mumbo jumbo? i'm lost when it comes to games speak.

It looks pretty cool so far, with 20k tris this will look great when its done! :)

Yes at the mo - will start to combin bits once they are finished and triangulated - does it really matter ?? - have I missed something here ??

HA HA - Maybe we should have something like this as the next challenge (if we ever get one ???)

That a lovely water texture - where did you get that ???

I didn't tile it, BTW

*shrugs* (i thought there was a smily for this, must have been somewhere else i saw it)

i always wondered this for hard surface things... if thing can be imported to a game engine without being a single mesh

if you combine though you'd end up with a lot more polys to worry about wouldn't you?

I like it! Very clean and efficient use of polys.

looking good mate

just want to say good luck with the application, I got turned down by them this week for the character artist position. I had pretty much everything they wanted on the sheet apart from Mel, I guess Im just not good enough....I asked them why but have had no reply...

Im only up the road from them like you as well...I so wanted to be closer to home in that respect...

Right finally got the first part uv mapped - the upper level minus the door.

I`m thinking 4 texture maps at the moment but we will have to wait and see

Nice UV mapping. I imagine it's not that hard but probably annoying anyway :)
I see something weird at approximately (8.9,4.2)
Keep it up!

Nice spot there BennyK one of the maps had slipped out of place - and yes very annoying - I hate this part of 3D the most.

Dock done as well - might paint this texture twice as alot of the wood is duplicated. - Have to wait and see how it goes ,,,
