Pretty excited to get invited to join a big CG competition.

We had 100 animals to choose from and since im from Canada i desided that i will do a high rez sculpt of a Moose. Also the sculpt just has to be in grey with no mapping or texturing so that really cool as well.

Here is the initial sketch of where I'll be going will most likely change as the models gets underway.

Yeah, really nice. I see you select just certain parts of objects while you sculpt in those areas...is that just a method you learned/kind of habit, or do you find that particularly useful?

Kurt

I usally block out all the model really rough with cuts that will define some shapes once thats done, I will select just certain parts and add more details.

Hi Kurt

It looks really good

There are still some small tweaks to be made to the head, I am no moose expert, but if you look at this image you see it yourself:

Not for me to judge your stuff mate, i learned using your vids...but i think it looks a little sad, depressed even.

I notice a neutral pose is allways the starting point on a lot of charactors and animals etc.. this presumes that you have to rig good enough to get the pose you finally want, why do you not start out with the heroic pose, then just model that?

Your work allways displays skill and determination.

I should be able to pose this guy in Zb pretty easy using transpose plugin.

Had some time to play with his antlers...

Just to add to this. You don't want to model in a heroic pose, as you'll lose the ability to use symmetry, plus a relaxed T-style pose (or quadrupedal equivalent) can allow great access to all areas of the model.

Though most people will develop their own ways of building characters, and what posses they use.

Nice sculpt Kurt.

Started sculpting the fur.. The fur on them is not to long so I'm trying to get a nice sculpted look, but at the same time not over doing it.

Will Play with poses soon.

Lots of tweaking today, I added a bit more bulk to him as well as started the base. Will be adding some brush in some of the cracks in the rock.

Looks good, will you be doing the fur in Maya or are you sticking with sculpted fur , in which I case I would pull out the detail a bit more to make the fur stick out some more .

Looks pretty sweet though

Kurt

I cant use fur for this project has to be 100% sculpted and just in grey.

Little update played a bit more with everything, just have to add a bit more texture to the rock and maybe some dirt just sitting on top where the grass is..

Yeah, I think after adding a little more to the rock will do the trick. Fantastic work Kurt.

Looks great Kurt, if I might offer a suggestion however I would advise you to add some fur sticking out around the silhoutte to give it a more organic feel

Reminds me of a sculpture you'd find in the center of a small town somewhere in the interior of BC. That's not a crit. I think it's great. Really nice work :)
