Free copy of Adobe Photoshop and CS2

Apparently, accoring to this article over at Gizmodo (http://gizmodo.com/5973730/grab-photoshop-and-cs2-for-absolutely-free-right-here), Adobe are giving away free copies of their (admittedly) rather old entire Creative Suite 2 rather than leave the registration servers up and running.


Not a bad deal if you don't need everything that the latest incarnations of the Adobe bloatware offers.

What is true is that Adobe is terminating the activation servers for CS2 and that for existing licensed users of CS2 who need to reinstall their software, copies of CS2 that don't require activation but do require valid serial numbers are available. (Special serial numbers are provided on the page for each product download.) See <http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1114930>.

You are only legally entitled to download and install with that serial number if you have a valid license to the product!

A member of Adobe staff did also say in the same thread that it would be most unlikely for Adobe to chase down anyone using the software though...

Agreed they do need to put out a coherent statement around what their intentions are - given the amount of noise this all seems to have generated, their best bet would be to simply announce it as generally free - it's not like they're going to be losing any sales on their current products as those who would have been in the market for them (ie: need to use the latest versions for work / compatibility reasons) will be buying those versions anyhow...
